Tell us a little bit about your film 'B.C. Butcher'
"B.C. Butcher" is the world's first prehistoric slasher film yet it's been described as "a beach movie without the beach" and "if Russ Meyer directed the Monkees"!
What inspired you to make a prehistoric themed movie? Do you have any films in that particular sub genre that inspired you?
It's a subgenre that doesn't really exist anymore. Kind of like biker movies. Of course Raquel Welch in One Million Years B.C. was a huge inspiration because she's the ultimate cavewoman and also Barbara Bach and Ringo Starr in caveman.
We really liked your musical selection for the film's intro (The Hollywood Argyles). Are you into old 60's Rock and Doo-wop? Have a favorite album?
Yes, I love music so much. I think as much as I love film. I especially love music in the sixties and I'm really fond of novelty songs like "Alley Oop". I don't think I could give you a favorite album... Maybe Leader of the Pack by the Shangri-Las? Pieces, Aquarius, Capricorn, and Jones Ltd. by the Monkees? It's a hard question!!!
How did you become part of the troma family and what's it like working with Lloyd Kaufman?
I just sent Lloyd an email after I shot my film and we met soon after that. We just talked a lot after that and Troma ended up putting out my film! Unca Lloydie is the best uncle I could ever ask for.
What's your favorite Troma film & why?
All of Lloyd Kaufman's films: Toxic Avenger, Terror Firmer, Waitress, The First Turn-On, etc. But I also love Up Your Teddy Bear, Daddy's Deadly Darling, and the classic Yeti: A Gay Love Story.
Writing a film at such a young age is an impressive task; how long did it take? Did the story go through many revisions or is what we see pretty much close to source?
I wrote the script when I was 15 in high school. I was 17 when I actually shot it. I'm 19 now and it's finally coming out! And it's absolutely nothing how I pictured it being but I love that so much. It's fun to think about the original idea and then look at the final product because they're vastly different.
If you could work with any actors in the industry, who would it be and what type of film would you like to make with them.
Mike Nesmith. Anything.
What are some upcoming projects you are working on that we should keep an eye out for?
My next mondo movie!!!
Who would win in a fight, Toxic Avenger or Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD?
I gotta say Toxie.
(note: we agree)
Thank you so much for taking the time Kansas, good luck with your future projects!
Thank you so much for the interview!!!
