SO UH, WHAT IS IT EXACTLY?
Well right off the bat, we have a title that's both incredibly hokey and self-aware, filled with the promising potential to deliver perhaps the pulpy kind of comedy-science fiction only Brian K. Williams and Scott Schirmer can deliver; and that's the other part of this production that speaks for itself. The pedigree of the two gentlemen at the helm of this project is one that carries with it certain...expectations. Having been involved in the production of films like the hyper-sexual paranoia-filled sci-fi thriller 'Harvest Lake', and the hauntingly visceral 'Plank Face', there's no doubt to the potential strength of this duo's one-two punch.
So what exactly does that mean for 'Space Babes from Outer Space'? Well that's where things get interesting, you see, this isn't going to be a somber gore-fest or serious horror thriller with tons of subtext, nope not at all. Here's what how director Brian K. Williams describes it:
“After doing two pretty somber movies, we’re ready to shake things up and make an all-out comedy,” says Williams. “But not just any comedy — a sexy space comedy!”
And there you have it. The fine folks at Bandit Motion Pictures will be delivering to their fans, a "sexy space comedy". What exactly would a film of this ilk, being produced by the talent at hand, even look like? Well, Williams goes on to say:
“It’s the kind of fun, sexy, feel good film that I grew up watching as a teenager in the 80’s, and I’ve always wanted to bring that sort of thing to the screen. With a cast of characters that are truly out of this world, it’s Barbarella meets Screwballs, with a dash of Splash, and tons of laughs.”
So while Space Babes may indeed lean more towards Porky's in space than a sci-fi Slumber Party Massacre, we still have no doubts that the producers will find a way to get some of the red-stuff flowing wherever it suits best...just expect to be clutching your chest in laughter, rather than covering your mouth in disgust (maybe if we're lucky, we get both!).
OK, I LIKE THE DIRECTION, BUT WHO'S IN IT?
The team have put together a cast of talented, beautiful people that for some, will be making their first feature-film appearance in Space Babes. You'll also recognize some of the actors as leads in previous projects handled by or involving Brian K. Williams and Scott Schirmer, a familiarity which should translate to better synergy among the production crew and an overall more quality film. While things can still change as we get closer to release (scenes and people can be added or removed) this is the current roster of performers listed officially so far taken from the site's official Facebook page (click each image for a pop-up containing background info):
GREAT CAST, REAL POTENTIAL! WHEN CAN I SEE IT?
Currently, the film has wrapped up principle photography after 10 days of shooting and as of this article's posting, should be entering well into post-production. The current release day target is a general "Spring 2017", so anywhere from the end of March to the beginning of June. Yeah, we know, that seems so far away, but these things take time (especially considering it's lower budget and method of funding) and if previous works are any indication, it'll be more than worth the wait.
FINE I'M CONVINCED, BUT IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN CHEW ON UNTIL THE MAIN FEAST LATER THIS YEAR?
While Thirteenth Floor will continue to post updates as things progress, feel free to snack on the few bits of behind-thescenes media we do have available.
and be sure to follow the film's official Facebook page for up-to-date news on its development.
