What better way to kick off Shark Month other than with the film that started them all. I was luckily enough to make it out to a special screening in theaters, and TTF13 co-founder Jeremiah introduced it to a new audience in between 4th of July festivities.
A giant great white shark arrives on the shores of a New England beach resort and wreaks havoc with bloody attacks on swimmers, until a local sheriff teams up with a marine biologist and an old seafarer to hunt the monster down.
Perfect 4th of July horror. Rewatched this evening with a couple of people who'd never seen it before. What a thrill to see a generation stereotyped as having zero attention span, kept glued to the TV from start to finish. "This was the 70's?!?", was also uttered multiple times, with the biggest gasps coming as a result of you-know-who's, violent death. And of course, Brody's infamous ,"Smile you son of a bitch" still manages to make my nipples stand at attention.
Everyone's favorite shark has lost none of it's bite.
There's not much you can say that hasn't already been said about Jaws. It encompasses the feeling of summer like John Carpenter's 'Halloween' does fall.
